Resolutions for a New Year

Drink at least 36 oz of water each day.

Figure out the whole homeschooling thing & deal with my ambivalence.

Schedule a weekly date night with Nick...either at home or out on the town!

Believe that God loves me not for what I do but for who I am.

Read a new book every week.

Practice looking at life with the wonder and carefree heart of a child.

2010, you're gonna be a good year!

Toddlers and Tiaras

REALITY TV SHOWS
I watched a few moments of this while on the treadmill at the gym today.

And threw up in my mouth a little.

To the Baby at the Movie Theater Last Night

I heard your little voice about thirty minutes into the movie, and said to Nick, "There's a baby here!" You'd been so quiet and good that no one had even noticed you.

Then you were carried up the aisle and out the doors by a skinny little teenaged girl. Big sister? No, mama trying to see a movie with her friends on a Friday night.

I wanted to hold you. You were just the size and shape of Eva, and you were being so good. I wanted to tell your mom that I'd keep you entertained so she could enjoy the movie. So I could just hold you.

My heart hurt every time I saw her walk in or out with you. I wondered what kind of life you will have. I wanted to help your mom. I wanted to take you home.

I can't keep you, baby, but I will remember you. I will pray that someday you will meet a Father who will love you and hold you and call you Daughter.

I still wish I could take you home.

Raindrops

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

So I just did me some talkin' to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done
Sleepin' on the job
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

But there's one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me won't defeat me
It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me

I know it's weird, but one of my favorite romantic movie scenes of all times is in the movie Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

The scene:
It's a beautiful fall day in some remote western mountain hideaway. This song plays and Sundance pedals a bike over bumpy ground as his lovely brunette girlfriend sits laughing between the handlebars. It sounds simple and a little lame, but it's perfect.

Lucky Me

Nick called me on his way home from work last night to say he'd seen a woman stranded by the side of the road, and he was going to turn around to help her.

Typical Nick. He is energized by helping those in need, no matter the weather (cold and dark), place (busy intersection) or time (dinner). What a guy.

Thirty minutes later , he calls me, and he's laughing.

"It's been so long since I've been hit on that I didn't understand what she meant when she offered me her phone number!"

It seems that this damsel in distress was out of gas, so Nick towed her with his Blazer to the nearest gas station. Apon her safe arrival, the girl thanks Nick for being such a wonderful guy, and says she's been hard pressed to find good guys in Peoria. Then she asks if she could give him her number.

I feel bad for her! It takes guts to put yourself out there...

Nick is thinking, "Hmmm, is she offering to return the favor if I ever get stranded?"

And then he realizes. OH.

So he quickly thanks her, but informs her that he's married and has three kids waiting for him at home. So, he gets back in his car and drives home to ME!!! The luckiest girl in the world.

Sorry, damsel in distress. Someday your prince will come.
